I love cakes! Actually I love desserts of any kind – so in order to satisfy my sweet tooth I bravely started baking a few years ago. In the beginning it went quite bad and I didn’t manage to bake anything properly, but at least I got funny stories for my friends out of it. As most learning processes go, I got better in baking with time and practice. There are still failures along the way and I often end up laugh at myself, but ultimately I’m not afraid to try new recipes and techniques anymore or working with ingredients I never did before. So baking for me today is mostly a lot of fun.
A special cake for a special celebration.
They say a party withouth a cake is just another meeting and I do love celebrating with a cake, it brings so much joy and all the smiles always make it up for the time spent in kitchen. But besides all sorts of b-day cakes, there are also those special cakes for things like … your best friend’s comming back from student exchange, your grandfather’s 80th birthday, the surprise tiramisu for the best boyfriend, wedding desserts for a dear friend – and a special cake for my sister’s and her boyfriend’s winning PROGLAS competition, held by Mladina magazine. I knew straight away that this achivement deserves a cake.
I made them an almond-coffee cake with caramel coating, adapted from the recipe I got on Coulinary journey by me, my go-to cooking website, thanks to my girls Urska & Jana who introduced it to me years ago. It was a sweet celebration and I am very excited to buy (a few copies of) Mladina in June and enjoy their designs on the first inner page of the magazine.
