Staying in Cortina d’Ampezzo was amazing, its location in the heart of the Dolomites offers so many hiking options, we had trouble picking one in the mornings. As we were traveling with our dog, we eliminated via-ferrata and other difficult hiking trails (but I’m sure we’ll return to do some of those one day!) and decided to keep our hikes dog-friendly. We opted for long …

Sunny September in Dolomites.
September of ’21 is coming to an end but whoa, it has been special! Definitely my favourite month this year, due to so many reasons, but one of them must be the weather. After a very special Saturday, we spent an amazing week in Dolomites and I still cannot believe what a sunny and warm weather we were blessed with – considering awful rainy forecast …
Views over Lago di Como.
As explained in my previous post, as soon as we got close to the shores of the Lago di Como, a hike to any of the mountains around the lake was added to our “must-do” list. The landscape was amazing from the lake already, but nothing beats the views from the top. And it wouldn’t really matter which summit you’d go for, I am sure the views are amazing from all around the lake …
Sunrise at Osoršćica.
One cannot miss Osoršćica, a 20 km long ridge along Losinj island. It’s right there in front of you, the moment you cross the bridge from Cres to Losinj, and it follows you all the way from Osor to Ćunski. You can tell the views from Televrina, the summit at 588 m of altitude, will be worth the hike. The hiking path is very nice, mostly in shadow …
Smells like spring.
It seems as we’ve skipped a season here on BWT blog! After a great start of a hiking autumn last year, lockdown vol. II hit hard. And although it felt dull at times, we actually had a nice winter and a very lovely Christmas that still keeps my heart warm. But to sum it up, besides the pile of books I’ve read and the loaves of sourdough I’ve baked, there’s little to show …
Landcapes of Kriški Podi.
Our mountain peaks might already be all white, but I’m still daydreaming of the warm autumnal weather we had in September. We spent one of the weekends in Bovec, hiking to Krnsko jezero on a Saturday and to Kriška jezera on a Sunday. The whole weekend was a blast, but above all I loved the path to Pogačnikov Dom na Kriških podih …
Bivouac under Skuta mountain.
Hiking to the bivouac shelter under Skuta mountain was on my bucket list for years now. In 2015, the old bivouac was replaced with the new, may I say a very good looking one – and all of a sudden, the steep hike via “Žmavcarji” didn’t seem all that bad. Well, the hike still is steep, unmarked and takes some time, but …
Summer hiking.
Due to the lockdown, all our spring hiking plans went out the window. Then June came and things started to fall back on its tracks, but we somehow had no time for hiking. It wasn’t until our summer holidays were over, that I found myself completely out of shape – but so eager to visit mountains again …
Grintovec.
We did quite a few hikes in August – however some tan lines from the day we hiked to Grintovec can still be seen on my legs and arms today! Nontheless, this was one of my favourite hikes of this summer. Maybe because we didn’t really plan it and spontaneous decisions usually turn out great. After we hiked to Kokrsko sedlo from Suhadolnik …
Via Ferrata girls!
You will hear many members of our family say, that my cousine Lara is a mini-me. Both having long legs we look a bit alike, but we also both love our dogs, as well as adventures and share little fear of heights! So, Via Ferrata hike was on our bucket list for a while. As it was Lara’s first, we took it easy and visited Via Ferrata Hvadnik …
